'Mind you, I am loading for a 32 day job to Sicily today.'

But Joe. Surely this is IMPOSSIBLE due to Brexit?

Re: Glastonbury
Barrowlands Glasgow must be about the worse for roadies/crew. About 6 flights of stairs with no lift. There is a block & tackle system for the really heavy stuff. Motors usually.

Joe:
I used to be a roadie back in the early 70's for Orange Music. The American acts who used Orange Amps preferred to hire the equipment from the UK instead of hauling it over from the states. We had two Mercedes Benz vans that we would chuck the gear into.
I remember being a roadie for Ike & Tina Turner at Hammersmith. Hauling 4x12 cabinets up a flight of fucking stairs and back down again!
The Royal Festival Hall (for Johnny Rivers) was a breeze. Massive lifts that went from ground level to stage level and the concert was produced in QUAD!!

Alf’s, yup, that’s what I do, but luckily have only been there 3 times in 15 years.

All glamour this R&R trucking laugh.

Mind you, I am loading for a 32 day job to Sicily today.

Joe, I used to live 200 meters from the Apollo and often saw massive lorries trying to reverse down that alley at the back. Caused havoc on the Fulham Palace Road.

Re: Glastonbury
Hammersmith Apollo is about the 2nd worse venue to get in, in a LHD artic.

The worst place is in Folkestone but I haven’t been there.

I went to see Daryl Hall tonight at the Hammersmith Apollo, he was awful, made EJ sound like Pavarotti.

Definitely! I was amazed by how strong her voice is. Actually how great they sounded as a unit too with some lovely tones- her lead guitarist was fantastic as well.

Re: Glastonbury
El Scorchio, totally agree on Chrissie Hynde, saw the Pretenders set at Glastonbury and her vocals are still spot on. She put the likes of Elton and Axel Rose to shame, hard to see where her voice has weakened in anyway whatsoever, very impressive.

Elton started this farewell tour in 2018 and it consists of some like 350 dates, granted we've had covid in the middle but fuck me that is some goodbye.

I believe he has said that he has retired from 'touring', therefore leaving the door open for any one-offs or residencies that he still fancies.

Re: Glastonbury
I know he has threatened before but isnt EJ already retiring? This was his 'last' UK gig wasnt it

Also isnt it true that the tickets go on sale BEFORE any (or most) of the headliners are named .... plus your £370 (?) gets you hundreds of bands if you think EJ is flogging a dead horse

Must say these days I prefer to be home in my own bed after an outdoor concert and the idea of hundreds of thousands wandering about would fill me with dread.
That said I am off to Mr Springsteen tomorrow night but will be home by 11pm

Re: Glastonbury
If people are happy to pay hundreds of their hard earned cash to see a 76 year old crucify their old songs then fair enough, personally, I'd rather stick some vinyl of the original music on and give my ears a break, along with my bank balance.

Re: Glastonbury
Talking of older performers and vocal ability, saw the Pretenders supporting Guns N Roses last week and fuckng hell Chrissie Hynde can still hold a tune at 71. Great voice, and actually great set all round. Very impressive.

They played at Glastonbury too, I believe, so there's your link.

Breaking news: 76 year old man’s voice isn’t what is used to be.

Stay tuned for more riveting takes

Re: Glastonbury
I was a huge EJ fan when I was a kid, his singing was superb, a wonderfully distinctive voice.
I was fascinated with Taupin's lyrics and had all his albums up to Blue Moves.
Then he turned shit, Kiss The Bride, I'm Still Standing etc, utter bollocks and these days that voice has gone, in fact, it went years ago and can't abide to watch any form of live performance.

I've heard EJ tributes sing better than he did at Glasto, it's time to retire.

Have a listen to Madman Across The Water album to experience that voice of days gone by, a truly wonderful piece of work and compare it to todays offerings.

That is brilliant I did see it at the time, but haven't seen it with the subtitles.

I actually changed my e-mail sign off to Dill Danding for 24 hours after seeing it during lockdown.

No one noticed.
